Comparing BYD to Honda is like comparing Cupra to BMW because they are essentially very similar.


Fair point, but I'd push back a little on that comparison. Cupra and BMW at least share a similar positioning within the VW Group ecosystem Cupra borrows a lot of platform and engineering DNA from VW/Audi, so there's a genuine technical lineage there, even if the badge and price point differ.


BYD and Honda are a different story completely separate companies, different engineering philosophies, different market history (Honda's been building cars for 70+ years, BYD started as a battery maker and pivoted into EVs comparatively recently). If anything, BYD's closer to how Tesla or a legacy EV-first brand operates than to a traditional ICE manufacturer like Honda.


Where I'd agree with you: both comparisons highlight a "value vs premium" perception gap Cupra is seen as the sportier/cheaper alternative to BMW, and BYD is increasingly seen as the value alternative in the EV space. So maybe the comparison works better on perception/positioning than on actual engineering or company history.

I was ironic.. IMHO Byd and Honda cannot be compared, they are not on the same step of the stair. Not considering technical matters, but considering that quite no customer would wonder whether to buy an Honda or a Byd.

Vedremo... In Giappone ha già una keicar elettrica, prima o dopo tutti i Costruttori devono proporre delle BEV, ormai i Governi hanno deciso che bisogna andare in quella direzione. Certo è che Honda si sta ancora leccando le ferite per il recente fallimento del progetto full-electric con Sony, mi sembra troppo presto per riaprire l'argomento... Per un po' credo rimarrà relegato a nicchie come appunto le keicar del mercato interno. Mi sorprenderei se la nuova Jazz avesse una versione BEV, sarei più propenso per un modello a sè stante. E poi c'è da valutare prima un passaggio "morbido" attraverso le PHEV, tra l'altro già disponibile nella ammiraglia CR-V...
P.S.=Honda è nota anche per fare le cose di testa sua, non segue pedissequamente le strategie dei concorrenti, al massimo prende spunti. Infatti una delle sue peculiarità, apprezzata dai suoi estimatori, è proprio il distinguersi dagli altri (come scelte tecniche, estetiche, commerciali...).
